South of The Border

Right after the first of the year, I headed South crossing the Mexican border with San Carlos being my first destination. It was a pretty easy drive as the roads (that is the toll roads) are 4 lanes and divided. (Sunset in San Carlos ) San Carlos has a couple of marinas and caters to Canadians and Americans who like to come spend the winter in a warmer climate. The housing is relatively inexpensive. I was able to free camp on the beach about 4 miles from town. The sunsets there were quiet beautiful. After a couple of weeks, I headed South once again, this time to Mazatan. This trip was longer, 500 miles. I made it in one day. Once again the toll roads pretty good. Mazatlan has a very interesting history and culture. The write up on the town in Wikipedea is quite good and I recommend you read it if you want to know more about the city. There are lots of Americans and Canadians visiting for a short time and a good number who spend the entire winter. Inexpensive direct flights f
